Why Indigenous literature?

Indigenous literature is extremely important to our society which looks to preserve the history, language and culture of our ancestors. It's very interesting to see how literature has its meaning and how the authors talk about their cultures and traditions. It is important that Indigenous literature remain alive and we as readers continue reading and trying to grow throughout time. Although Indigenous literature has existed for a long time, it was not always considered as deserving of being labeled as literary canon, which in most part is due to discriminatory ideology towards people of Indigenous origin. Giving importance to this literature gives more opportunities in the Indigenous communities to keep practicing their Native tongues in an equitable way and in this way be able to pass it onto the next generations. This way the legacy of these communities that already existed in Latin America before the arrival of Spanish or any other literature. For every author, the growth and expansion of Indigenous languages is a fundamental part in the creation of their work, besides the fact that these same artists want the public to know more about how the language was used in the past. Many of the times the authors that write their poems do it so others can feel what they want it to represent or feel their way of remembering their culture.
